Gear in the Streets!
Want to learn how to operate a REALLY LOUD sound system? Project a message on the side of a building? Or run a professional live stream with on-screen graphics? Join us for Gear in the Streets, a series of hands-on workshops where we’ll cover the basic principles of sound reinforcement, light projection, and live video.
6-7:30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays
The Movement Infrastructure Project
33 Grant Circle NW
The team at the Movement Infrastructure Project is excited to offer a wide range of professional-grade equipment to support social movement organization in our community in planning and deploying powerful and dynamic actions and events. In the past month alone, we’ve provided gear to support more than 15 different actions around a myriad of issue areas.
We don’t want lack of resources or access to equipment to be a barrier to taking action, so all of our gear is available to movement groups at incredibly reasonable sliding-scale rates, as long as you have someone in your group who can pick up the gear and knows how to use it! As summer approaches and more and more groups get in the streets we want to make sure as many people as possible are familiar with our equipment and can safely and effectively use it in actions.
Get Loud - Basics of sound reinforcement for actions. We’ll show you how to set up a PA system, run a mixer, troubleshoot normal problems, and introduce some skills that you may want to explore as you organize larger and larger actions (picking the right mix of speakers, handling multiple outputs for press, supporting different types of inputs).
Shine a Light On It - We’ll show you how to use a projector to display an image on a building. In this session we’ll dig deep into the menus on projectors to get the brightest image from our gear. And we’ll practice working with MadMapper, a popular and powerful program that allows us to ‘bend’ light and map images to uneven surfaces and even project on multiple surfaces at the same time.
Go Live! - Want to produce professional live streams with ultra-stable HD image quality and on-screen graphics? We’ll show you how to use a mirrorless camera or camcorder with a LiveU encoder to livestream from the field. And we’ll share some software tools that you can use to add on screen graphics “starting soon” and “be-right-back” screens, speaker titles, and organizational logos.
Each workshop runs from 6pm to 7:30pm at the Movement Infrastructure Space at 33 Grant Circle, NW. Stop in for one session or check out all three workshops in the series!
