About Movement Music Project
Making Music for the Movement
Movement Music Project brings together local justice singers, musicians, choral leaders, allies, and activists to amplify movements. We coordinate efforts across the DC/MD/VA to bring music to the frontlines of the fight for democracy and liberation.
Bringing Music to the Frontlines
Music has kept the stories of movements for liberation alive and spirits high at some of the lowest points and brightest times in our history. The current state of our country demands that we continue to speak up, and - as Joshua Campbell so aptly put it in his ode to Civil Rights leader and Congressman, John Lewis - we must "sing out and march on."
Movement Music Project is building a network of activists and artists to:
Connect singers, musicians, choral leaders, and activists across the DC/MD/VA area to sustain movement music now and for the future.
Support impactful singing and song-leading on the frontlines through participation in actions and shared learning.
Expand the network of artists and activists who are trained on equipment to more broadly support actions in real time.
